Welcome to Verbatim Books, we take pride in hosting a diverse array of events featuring local authors, poets, traveling writers, artists, musicians, and more. Our commitment to fostering a vibrant literary community has led us to produce popular events like the North Park Book Fair and the renowned North Park Square Dance. Have an idea for us? North Park Community Fair

The North Park Community Fair is a new monthly gathering rooted in what we love most, books, creativity, and the people who make this neighborhood feel like home. Hosted by Verbatim Books, this series takes place on the first Saturday of every month and is designed to be approachable, collaborative, and community driven.

We created the North Park Community Fair as a way to carve out consistent space for local artists, readers, makers, and small businesses to connect. North Park has always been rich with independent spirit. This is our way of nurturing that ecosystem and giving it a regular rhythm. Think of it as a standing invitation to gather, discover, and participate.

Each month will feature a different theme and focus. Check out each event on our calendar for more details and ways to participate.

Pitch Your Event!

Are you an author or publisher interested in hosting an event at Verbatim Books? We’d love to hear from you and welcome authors and publishers to reach out to us! Though we are a primarily secondhand bookstore, we have the ability to order new books from publishers or Ingram, and we are always happy to consider hosting events for traveling authors whose works align with our selection.

Submission Guidelines

If you’d like to propose an event, please keep the following guidelines in mind, and contact us below:

1. 1. Alignment with Our Bookstore: While we are open to considering new titles from authors and publishers, as a primarily secondhand bookstore we do very few author events and therefore are extremely selective. Please don’t feel bad if we can’t host you!
   2. Engaging and Experiential: We love events that go beyond the traditional book signing format and offer our patrons a chance to connect deeply with the authors and their works. Please propose events that are engaging, interactive, and experiential.
   3. Multiple Participants: We encourage event proposals that involve multiple authors, poets, or artists, creating a diverse and enriching experience for our audience. We rarely do single author events.
   4. Event Details: Provide us with the date and time of your proposed event, author/publisher information, additional participants (if applicable) , and book titles by each participant.

Please note that due to the high volume of submissions, we may only be able to respond if we are interested in proceeding with the event. 

For obvious reasons, we do not host events for Amazon-published books.

Our carefully curated shelves of new and used books provide a unique backdrop that will delight your guests and add a touch of literary charm to your event.

How to Submit Your Event Proposal

As we host only a limited number of events each year, we prioritize gatherings that have a genuine connection to our store or a compelling story behind why they wish to use our space. 

To submit your event proposal, please follow these guidelines:

1. 1. Tell Us Your Story: We love to hear about the inspiration behind your event and how it aligns with the spirit of Verbatim Books. Share your vision and the unique elements that will make your occasion truly special.
   2. Event Details: Provide us with the date and time of your proposed event, estimated number of attendees, and any specific requirements you may have.
   3. Contact Information: Share your contact details so that we can get in touch with you to discuss your proposal further.

Photography

We do not allow any photo shoots during business hours, professional or otherwise.

While we appreciate the love for our space, we kindly request that all photo shoots be scheduled outside of our regular business hours. We value the comfort and enjoyment of our customers and want to ensure that everyone has a pleasant experience during their visit. If you’re interested in capturing our charming bookstore in all its glory, please reach out to us to discuss scheduling your photo shoot.
